We had the pleasure of conducting a seminar at the University of Calgary titled “Build A Meaningful Career in Music Education.” on 27th September 2024. It was an incredible experience connecting with aspiring musicians, educators, and enthusiasts, all united by their passion for music and their desire to make a lasting impact through teaching.
Enthusiastic Participants
The event was offered as a free seminar, and we were thrilled by the overwhelming response. The room was filled with students, educators, and professionals at various stages of their careers. Seeing so many eager faces—people who were not only passionate about music but also curious about how to channel that passion into a meaningful and sustainable career—was inspiring.
Why Choose Music Education?
The focus of the seminar was on helping attendees understand the possibilities within the world of music education. Many students often overlook this path, assuming that a career in music is limited to performing or composing. But teaching offers a fulfilling way to share your love of music while influencing the next generation of musicians. Music education is more than just a job; it’s an opportunity to inspire, mentor, and nurture the talent of others.
We explored the evolving landscape of music education, discussing traditional and non-traditional pathways, including private tutoring, online teaching platforms, and institutional roles like working in schools, private studio and universities.
A Glimpse Into TeachMusic.Academy Own Journey
Throughout the session, Looi has shared personal anecdotes from her own journey as a music educator. She has highlighted the challenges I faced and the pivotal moments that shaped her career. By sharing real-world experiences, she aimed to give attendees a better understanding of both the highs and lows of working in this field, offering them practical tips to navigate their own paths.
Moving Forward: What’s Next?
We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to have shared this experience with such an enthusiastic crowd. Moving forward, we hope to continue these seminars and workshops, both at the University of Calgary and elsewhere, helping more aspiring musicians build meaningful careers in education.
For those who attended, thank you for your participation, questions, and enthusiasm! For those who missed out, keep an eye out for future events. Whether you’re a seasoned musician looking to transition into teaching or a student exploring your options, we hope this seminar has sparked a new perspective on what a career in music education can offer.
Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming events, and let’s continue building a supportive community of music educators!
